Davey Arthur is
a long time friend of The Four Provinces, regularly entertaining fans
with his outstanding talent and undeniable charm and wit.
Davey Arthur is one of Irelands
most successful Artists. He first started playing music at the age of
eight after his family moved from Donegal to Scotland when he was just
two. He Spent the best part of fourteen years in Edinburgh, mostly socialising
with the Irish community. His love of music comes from his mother's side
of the family, as her brother, Paddy, played 'the box' along with his
grandmother. This is where Davey had his first taste of Irish traditional
music. His father's side of the family were not completely devoid of showbiz
roots, as his uncles were part of a travelling circus!
Davey returned back home to
Ireland at the age of eighteen. It was at this time he started composing
his own songs and tunes and he has now , to date, written over 40 compositions,
some of which have been recorded by many of the biggest names in Irish
music today.
Davey Arthur went on to become
one of Irelands most successful artists, when working from Spon End, Coventry,
with the Furey brothers: they became one of the biggest folk acts ever to
come out of Ireland. Davey Arthur became a world famous name when, during
that time, he toured the world bringing Irish music to the attention of
a whole new section of the listening public.
In 1992, Davey left the Fureys
to pursue a solo career, and also to create the freedom he now enjoys,
to play with many of the musicians he admires.
In respect of touring, Davey
Arthur now has two projects that he is involved with, one being a duet
with the critically acclaimed guitarist from Killarney, Co. Kerry, Mike
Galvin, and the other as a three or five piece band 'Davey Arthur &
Co.', who's band members are chosen from a pool of Irish traditional talent,
Band members have included Anton McAuley (fiddle), Tommy Lannigan (bohdran)
and Mike Galvin (guitar & keyboards). Each project: 'Davey Arthur
with Mike Galvin' and 'Davey Arthur & Co' is enjoying great acclaim
and success worldwide.

Davey Arthur has now been recognised
by his peers as one of Irelands biggest musical exports and has moved
audiences the world over with his spirit, soul and expertise, and, in
1999, Davey was rightfully awarded his place in the 'Irish Music Hall
of Fame' in Dublin, along side such other illustrious Irish artists, including:
U2, Sinead O'Connor, The Corrs, The Chieftains, Da Danann and Clannad,
an award that many feel is overdue.
For the past four years or
so, Davey Arthur has toured extensively throughout Europe, America, Canada
and the Middle & Far East, taking his brand of Irish music to the
public with great success, and this trend looks set to continue well into
this Millennium.
